Prime Minister Naoto Kan’s ruling party agreed Monday with two major opposition parties on a 30 percent cut in each parliamentarian’s salary for six months to help generate funds for reconstruction work following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
If realized, the plan will see around 3 million yen cut from each Diet member’s salary during the period, adding up to a total of 2 billion yen to help finance the reconstruction of northeastern Japan.
See, this is how it’s supposed to be. Take money from filthy rich higher-up’s instead of the regular folk 8)
Ms Hosomi adds: “There was a 6.4 earthquake in the Shizuoka area, where I am from and my family are now. This is near the Hamaoka nuclear plant, which is still operating. It has been predicted that the Shizuoka area will have an eight level earthquake in the near future, due to the pressure from two [tectonic] plates. We must put pressure on the Japanese government to stop the operation of the Hamaoka plant, which could cause the same damage as the plant at Fukushima if further earthquakes happen. We don’t want the same situation happening again.”
I think this woman is right. They should accept the offer from Russia about getting help with electricity, and shut down all the nuclear plants around Tokyo-Nagoya-Osaka (potential megathrust areas), just in case. I’m no expert, but still.
